What Year and Leaded or unleaded??

Hi guys,I just bought a mercury 4 horse.It is in mint shape but I think it is alot older than it looks.It has the red striping around the cover,it says Kiekhaefer Mercury on it and the serial # is 2927359 Any help on the year would be great. My other question is on a older motor like this is it ok to run unleaded or should I buy stuff to mix with the gas?? Thanks again.Ron

Hello.<br />These 2 cycle engines do not ever need leaded gas.<br />If you want to add something to your fuel,you can put "seafoam" in. See: www.seafoamsales.com<br />Good luck.

The oil in a two-cycle provides the lubrication, so lead is irrelevant (consistent with what Rolmops is saying). At least that is the way I've understood the leaded vs unleaded question for two-cycles. Maybe there is a better technical explantion out there, however.
