What Would You Do

In one lake where I go boating, there's only one public ramp with one dock that is free. But the ramp has another lane which is for power loading and unloading. The other boat launches charges minimum of $30 so you can imagine how crowded the free launch gets.

As I finish my trip for the day, I head back to the dock to load my boat. There's another boat tied up at the dock so I wait my turn idling in the middle of the cove. Then, another boat comes and as he passes me by I shout, "I hope you're power loading because I'm waiting to dock". He nods his head up and down indicating, Yes.

But the dude pulls right up to the boat ramp behind the guy that's loading his trailer and ties up his boat. I yell at him but he and his buddy just ignores me. What a pr**k.

What would you do?

I'd make a thread about it on the net.... that'll teach him a lesson for sure

I only wish I met such a small number of jerks that one seemed important enough for me to still be thinking about after he left my sight

Hard to reason with unreasonable people. Never at a ramp but I've been cut in lines before and the people doing it know it's wrong but don't care any way. I'd probably be annoyed but make sure to get in after them and let it slide.

I gave up on the free launches years ago. Mine charges $30, but its also the best ramp I have ever seen. Not too many boats there and its regularly patrolled, so security is high.

Boating is what takes my mind off my troubles. I don't need aggravation there too.

You get what you pay for.

Dang! I thought it was an outrage when the pay launch ramps raised their fees from $3 to $5:facepalm:

I do use a free ramp that is on our state power company land because security is high there and most people are civilized, but I don't use it during the summer or on nice weekends.

I used to get bent out of shape when stuff like that happened at the launch, but now I just roll my eyes and pretty much ignore it. Life is too short to let little stuff like that bother you for too long.

Docks are natural bottlenecks, so loading and unloading are almost always going to be the two most stressful parts of a day on the water. Not much you can do when folks don't follow etiquette or common courtesy, but take a deep breath, rise above and pat yourself on the back for not being "that guy" at the ramp.

Nope -- you just pull your boat into the actual ramp, jump out and get your vehicle. Then load up. It helps if you are bigger than the dude that jumped the line or if there are more of you than there are of them. Otherwise you swallow the pill. Those folks eventually get their face full of someone and change their ways.

I would have waited for them to dunk their trailer in the water, power loaded up my boat up on their trailer, waited for them to start bichen about my boat being on their trailer, then said "Sorry about that, I thought I was next in line to load up"

Not really, I've learned to blow off carp like that. You can't fix stupid.

Karma will catch up with them, eventually...

$30 to launch for the day-- When the one I used went to $7 I quit using it,,,, but that was a couple decades ago. I bought an indoor dry stack-- now just have the HOA fee ~~~ no more ramps!

It's the same guy who will be driving down the freeway with a left lane closed in 1 mile and rather than merge will drive in the left lane to the bitter end then expect people to cheerfully let them in. You just can't fix stupid.

It seems this type of thing happens more and more lately. It happens because people do not call these selfish buffoons out. They don't want to make a scene. It's hard to blame them because you never know how some people will react.

I would call them out, and encourage everyone else to do the same. The more these turds are called out, the greater the chance they will eventually change. Well, that's the hope anyway.

Sometimes I wish this site had a like button.

I would try not to get mad. People are people. I remember once I was getting really mad at this guy for hogging a lane on a busy day, he was fixing his trailer at the ramp, nothing was loaded on the boat ect. I pulled in the lane next to him and he made a comment about I wish I could dock as easy as you can then it hit me that the guy was just inexperienced. We ended up chatting while were were loading/unloading he was a really nice guy. Then about 10 min later I look back at the ramp he is floating out there with his engine hatch up and the boat on fire!

Lol,

Our community has a private ramp in a club environment so it isnt the busiest yet still can be crazy. 2 Lanes wide yet people still park in the middle while they go for a boat ride? I was once held up for 15min while 3 guys struggled to put a jon boat on a trailer using the entire ramp...

Dock slip for me!

Re: What Would You Do

Wow, lots of action on this topic!

I was waiting, 2nd in line of about 5 boats for the ramp so we could pull out at the end of the day one time. This guy backs his jetski down the ramp, pulls it off the trailer, ties it to the dock and proceeds to work on his trailer adjusting the rollers or something. Us guys on the water were just shaking our heads. Took about 15 minutes then he was gone. What a ****.

Kill him with kindness, jump out of your boat and help him load his, then gracefully explain how the world would be better off without his kind. He sure wont expect that and I'm sure he will think twice next time.
If that fails just shoot a couple holes in his boat, below the waterline and call it good, he wont be back for a while, and heck, we may even be able to assist him with the repairs when he comes here for help.

Make sure his boat is already loaded up because you still need to use that launch!!

A guy older than me ~ keeps a handful of 1 oz sinkers on his dash. He tosses them at people that do stupid things. I told him once someone is going to come back one day. He says "no problem, I have a gun too". He mostly tosses them at jet skies that roar past too close to where he is fishing.

Re: What Would You Do

It used to be that the dock was for dropping off people while you go get the boat. Most of the ramps I've seen only have a dock on one side. Is there a sign that says 'powerloading in this lane only'? Or is it just that everyone who uses that lanes happens to powerload.

We used to determine who's boat is next in line based on the order of the tow vehicles at the ramp, not the order the boats arrived at the dock. As for 'cutting in line' this doesn't make any sense. If there was room at the dock for this other guy to tie up, what were you waiting for? If there is room to tie up and it's not impeding the guy who's tow vehicle is backed down the ramp, then I'm tying up.
