Looking to purchase a 2003 Monterey 298 SC. Price is listed by owner at 49k. The boat looks immaculate via pictures. Downfall is they do not know the engine hours. I may be going to see the boat and hear it run in the next 2 weeks once they get it ready for spring and may want to make an offer but if the engine hours are over 800k I wouldn't be interested.

I'm stumped on how they can put a price on the vessel without knowing engine hours. I was told the hrs gauge was not working.
Is there a scanner of some sort I can buy to check the engine hours or would you pay a surveyor to go over it? Thanks for any help!

Any dealer can get you engine hours from the ECM if the engine is fuel injected

Why are you worried about 800 hours?

A 20 year old boat should have between 1000 and 2000 hours

A well maintained motor will go beyond 5000 hours

I would be more worried if a 20 year old boat has less than 400 hours. Meaning it has sat alot
