Two weeks ago my 60hp Mercury (mounted on a pontoon boat) was peforming excellent. It normally idles at 1000 rpm. However today it idles for a couple of seconds at approx 800 rpm and then dies. When the trottle is increased to keep it idling the motor rpm's increases and then falls back. I checked the plug wires connections. For grins and giggles I disconnected the bottom plug wire and the motor behaved the same as before with the exception it didn't change in rpm's. This indicated that I was using only 2 of 3 cylinders but I don't know why. Is there anything I can check prior to sending it to the shop? Thanks in response for the respones.
