Just doing some research...I think I've decided I want this motor in my next runabout. Wondering if I have to buy a new one or if it's been around a little while and might be available used.

Was there ever a TBI version of the 4.3?

Thanks!

Good info...thank you. Gets me in the ballpark anyway. FI has been around on that motor a little longer than I thought, which is good for my pocketbook since I can now shop for used boats, too!

Thanks again!

Hey garycinn, are you happy with your TBI? Any problems with it at all? And do you know the HP rating on that motor? I see today's carb 4.3 is 190, and the MPI is 220. Curious if the TBI lands somewhere in the middle. Thanks again.

Find a wrecked 1992 or later Chevy Astro/GMC Safari van and pull the engine. They had multiport injection back then. It's a rather unique design using a single injector with six tubes feeding popet valves at the end.

Very happy with it. No problems. Starts with a 1-2 second turn of the key, runs great and doesn't diesel when I turn it off. The 4.3L V6 TBI is rated at 210 HP.

Upinsmoke
Unless that system is USCG marine certified, it shouldn't be used on a boat.

Thanks, garycinn. Sounds like I can look back as far back as approx 1998 to find my next boat with a respectable fuel injected motor...that's what I was trying to learn. I'm sure the MPI is better than the TBI, but either would be far superior to the carbed version. Glad to see Mercruiser and other marine mfrs. finally starting to catch up with the rest of the technological world. I appreciate the info everyone provided.
