What Volvo outdrive do I need?

Hello:

I recently purchased my first I/O and I learned shortly thereafter that the outdrive was in worse shape than I had thought. My mechanic is recommending I replace it. I am shopping around for a used one and I was wondering what Volvo penta I would need to replace a 315 Indmar engine. Any advice?

Someone has recently offered me a free used outdrive from a 175 HP power engine but something tells me the two are not going to be compatible. Any guidance here?

Right now I have a 1988 volvo duo-prop. I am just replacing the drive. The engine is a 2005 315 Indmar and it is brand new.

the drive model is what you need to post. transoms are sometimes drive specific. 1988 is most likely a 290dp. if you are unsure a photo would clear it up.
that is a very dependable drive why is it a write off?

I can't get photo because it is under wraps for the winter.

I am writing it off because it was not maintained from what they are telling me it is not worth the cost of repairs. I have no idea what these cost brand new or redone. Any ideas on that? If it is a trade off between spending the $ to fix it versus spending the same amount for a new/redone outdrive I would rather do the latter.

Nobody can tell you what one is going to cost if they don't know what you have. Was it a single prop? Dual Prop? Did it have trim? or just a Mechanical lift. If it has trim, are the trim cylinders inside a stainless bracket?

Good point. Sorry to throw a random question out there when all I know is that it is a duoprop, had trim, white and a 1988. That chart is very useful. I am going to have to take a look at it and try and figure out what it is that I have. It definitely looks most like the DP-G.

This is a whole new world to me and I am a bit confused and disappointed because the condition of the outdrive was significantly less than described.
