What Tyre Ratings are required.

I live in the UK and have an American trailer made from triton trailer components. Unfortunately I cant find any company that ships triton components to the UK so I would like to change the axle , springs , bearings etc to ones available in the UK. What I want to know is how to work out what weight ratings I need.<br /><br />Do I need to Get the Gross Weight of the boat + weight of the trailer and divide by 2 to get the weight on each tyre? If two axles can I divide by 4?<br /><br />Regards<br />Chris

Generally, you take the weight capacity of the trailer or axle(s), whichever is lower as that is your max capacity, divide that number by two (or 4 for a tandem axle) and make sure your tire capacity is above that. This assumes that your trailer has enough capacity to safely carry the boat on it.<br /><br />For example, my trailer is rated to carry 4800lbs an 2 axles. 4800/4 gives me 1200lbs per tire required. Because of the tire size I need on this trailer, the tires I have actually are rated at 1860 per tire, well above what is necessary. I like a large margin of safety. What size tires are on your current trailer? 205/75-14?

JasonB,<br /><br />Thanks I can't tell you what the size of the tyres are because the boat is near the water. I have tried and cant get the size of tyre over here (carlson tyre). The trailer that came with the boat is a single axle (1900LSR Regal Bowrider) I have never seen a single axle over here on a boat that size so I am trying to work out if I can get the bits to replace the single axle with a UK single axle rated for the correct weight with a safety margin. I suspect I cant and will end up either having to import the parts through a Regal main dealer or convert to twin axles. The costs of getting it through Regal are so much I really want to convert<br /><br />Regards<br /><br />Chris
