Hello,

i recently picked up a 1979 Stamas sportcruiser flybridge. It is 26' long, with a 9'8" beam, specs say dry weight is 6300lbs. I have searched extensively as well as called a few marinas to try to identify what type of trailer i need. I have received all kinds of answers, including bunk only, roller only. i presume i need an 8000lb double axel trailer at minimum. I will only be trailering when i drop in and when i haul out at the beginning and the end of the season, and if there is a storm or repairs.

Can anyone tell me which type of trailer will accomodate the vdrives, shafts and props.

Thank You,

Chris Donnelly

You will have to measure spacing of the shafts etc and measure each trailer to see it it can be made to fit

bunk is the best bet for EASY fit and it will have to be tall enough to keep gear out of the ground... plus you will need clearance between the boat and trailer frame..... A better question to ask the marina people is "can you supply me with a trailer to fit my boat"

I would search for a used trailer, there should be many available in the storm area. Your main concern is a trailer that will accommodate your wider boat. Pretty much any boat trailer that wide will be plenty long enough, and have the axle capacity needed. My preference is a bunk trailer, rollers are a boat-on-the-pavement waiting to happen. (JMO)...

Next up is a trip to the closest boat trailer shop, and have them re-fit the bunks to fit your boat. It'll cost around $800 give or take, and is well worth it.

thank you @ Frantically Relaxing, i agree, rollers seem to be a lot of maintenance. Thanks for the advice finding the width first and then getting it adjusted. i will work on that.

@smoke on the water, thanks for the input

Your best bet is to call Owens and Son's in St Pete FL. That boat was built 30 miles away. They have been there forever and probably built more trailers for that boat than anyone. They are great people and will give correct info.

If the dry weight of your boat is 6300#, it's probably at least 7500# on the hoof. Add the weight of the trailer and you're way over. Best 'fit' is what you determine after you find out what capacity is needed ... ;)

6,300 lbs dry seems really light for a 25' flybridge with twins, Have you weighed it?
