I have an 85 tohatsu M25B I just bought and I can't figure out how to hook up the ear muffs! I think I may need another flusher of some sort. I can't see where the water intake is. Can anyone clue me in??

Looks like I may need to take the prop off or something. Any one ever done this? I am kinda new to this engine.

you don't need to take the prop off, position the muffs over the 2 plastic mesh covers on the lower unit .....

the intake is probably on the underside of the cavitation plate...Mercury makes a flusher for their little motors that would work...part # 44357T2

Only thing that I can see that looks like a water intake is right below the exahust exit directly above the prop. I see a stainless, or possibly plastic screen mesh on the left hand side as I am looking at the back (prop facing me). Dosen't seem like it will allow very much water in, but I can't see anywhere else...

Just a little FYI for everyone. Just got this from Tohatsu regarding this engine:

Very few 25B models were imported and the original distributor had poor records and we have no owners manual info. That lower unit had to be submersed to be flushed as far as I can remember. I only saw 1 25B backin 1985 and I have slept since then. BTW...many of the parts are nolonger available for that model, so be aware.

If its like the newer versions the prop has to come off for flushing. Ears don't work with the prop off either.

Aside from the gearbox and cowling, the 25B is very similar to the later model 25C2 & 25C3 motors, so parts interchange may not be a big problem.

I haven't looked at a 25B midsection in along time, but I would expect there to be a removable water plug on the shift lever side of the motor. Tohatsu makes a flushing attachment that scews into this hole, see page 36 of the 25C3 owners manual http://www.tohatsu.com/tech_info/manuals.html
