What type of battery do I need for my trolling motor?

I recently bought a 12' Starcraft off of a friend. He threw in an old Sears Diehard trolling motor. He didn't have a battery and didn't know what kind it needed :facepalm: . I know I need a deep cycle but I know nothing about batteries or what kind voltage they have. The motor has 36 lbs of thrust. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A deep cycle for sure, 12 volt, highest amp hour you can afford. With more amp hour, comes more weight and cost. Good luck.
