What torque for my prop?

2005 Nissan 50 hp 2 stroke TLDI Some say don't torque the prop and others say 25 to 30 lbs. Manual states to securely tighten? (what does that mean?) I didn't torque my prop and had a bit of prop chatter? engine is new to me. Thanks.

If it has a safety key or lock of some sort to prevent the nut from coming off...it doesn't t make much difference, can' t come loose anyway. In my 60 yrs of boating, I just get it typical wrench tite and lock the tabs or slip in the cotter pin. Done...go boating...
If you getting prop chatter, make sure a spacer or washer is not missing, and everything is seated correctly. Look up a parts list for your motor and be sure you have all the necessary spacers/ washers etc.

Thanks, I have two props that look identical, on muffs one sounds horrible in gear while the other sound fine. In the past on other boats I simple would hand tighten the nut the then tighten until the next place to install the couter pin, why would some say 25lbs and other sites hand tighten?

Because “other sites” are not liable for damage or injury resulting from an improperly installed prop.

According to your manual it’s 25 ft/lbs.

My service manual for 90-125 HP Mercs specifies 55 foot-lbs. I think they don't want any slipping...........

I may be of only minor help here because I have CRS. Also, my engine is a Merc. 60 Command thrust. Nevertheless,....

Bought the motor brand new on a Boston Whaler. It suffered from prop chatter from day 1. I did some R &D and found it was a common problem, even though it was torqued properly. The solution was to change the hub kit.

I replaced it with a Flo-Torq hub kit and the chatter went away. Maybe do a search about Nissans specifically, and possibly they have a better hub kit available.

Open up the web page of Tohatsu on dingbat post. It has a parts assembly page of the prop on the shaft. The noisy prop could have a damaged and slipping rubber hub. If it is inside the prop.
