i recently purchased a 1997 sea-doo spx,ran when last ridden.battery was dead so i replaced and now i cant get any power, checked all the fuses i could find (4) 2 in front box and 2 in back box.checked and cleaned all wires and grounds.when it was put up after last ride, the previous owner left the dess lanyand hooked up.dont know if that is bad.what else is there to check?can jump across selonoid and motor will spin.but it wont beep, start button doesnt do anything,no clicking of any kind.any help would be greatly appreciated.also wife found on internet that if you replace battery you have to take to dealer to have security code reset,is that true or is it something i can do myself.have shop manual coming also

Re: what to do

if the lanyard is replaced you have to get it programmed at the dealer,, not the battery, and leaving the lanyard hooked should not cause any problem.. it sounds like your solenoid either has a bad ground wire, or is just bad itself, there should be a small black ground wire attached to the aluminum backing plate at the solonoid that goes to the negative side of the battery,, that wire goes bad often,, make a jumper wire with clips on both ends attach it from the aluminum plate to the battery neg turminal and see if it works if it does just replace the ground wire if not keep loking for bad grounds possibly to the brain

Re: what to do

If you arent getting ANY beeps it can be several problems. Sea Doo's are known for the buzzer dying. You can pick a new one up one ebay for ten bux. If the buzzer is good, and you arent getting anything, then I'd say it's the Dess module (which can get expensive.) If it turns when u jump the solenoid, then its not your starter or motor. Replacing the battery will NOT "unprogram" your dess.
