I have inherited a Mercruiser 225 I/O V8 that filled up with rain water to a depth that ended with water entering the block. The water did not reach the height of the carburator, but must have entered through the dipstick or oil filler cap. My indication that there was water was the milky look of of the dipstick. The engine has not been cranked and I don't know how long the water has been there (probably four or five months). Does anyone have ideas on ways that I might flush the block without having to pull the engine? Electrically, everything seems to have survived without damage.

tbird,

OK, I'll bite.

If it were mine, here is what I would do.

1. Drain the oil.
2. Replace the filter.
3. Turn the engine over with the spark plugs removed.
4. Squirt some WD-40 in the plug holes and let it sit overnight.
5. Repeat step #3.
6. Fill with oil (high detergent) and start. Just let it idle and listen carefully.
7. Run it up to operating temp. for about 1/2 hour.
8. Drain oil and refill with fresh, replace filter again.

Since you are going to go through two filters in short order, use automotive equivelants. Replace finally with the correct marine filter.
