Based on all your GREAT advise, I am buying a used 1993 Grady 232 w/1993 250 Yamaha. Tomorrow, I will go for sea trial and engine inspection. What is exceptable compression and what is exceptable variation across the cylinders? Is there anything else I should be careful of when inspecting the engine? I am going with a surveyor, just want to make sure I cover as much as pooible!

Make sure you check out the lower unit by looking at the condition of the oil. Take out the bottom drain screw. If the oil is white or clear water comes out the l/u needs to be re-sealed or worse. It is normal to see a small amount of metalic particles on the drain screw but just a small amount of little filings. Also look at the prop shaft to make sure it is not bent. Spin the prop and watch the center carefully to make sure it doesn't wobble. When you run the boat make sure that it goes into forward and reverse properly and doesn't junp out of grear (especially reverse).

Lower unit reparis can be very expensive so it's worth having a look.

Thanks! Did all those things. Looks real good. Compression was 118, 117, 117, 116, 119, 120 in the cylinders (I'm not sure if the order is correct) is this relatively good for a 1993 Yamaha 250?

Compression sounds fine. It should never be below 90 and all cylinders must be within 15 psi difference.
