What to buy for my Dad in SC?

I was wondering if you're collective experience might be able to help me.

I would like to surprise my father with a boat as a gift. (He would never let me buy something for him...so it's the only option...to surprise him!)

He's not really a fisherman, likes to just go out on the water for fun, for an hour here or there! Usually goes out on the water with mom, friends, to have a cocktail, socialize, etc...

He is 65. Lives near Georgetown, SC.

I'd like to spend about 30k. Any thoughts?

Yep. Stable, user and buyer friendly, durable, relatively low maintenance, and surprisingly versatile. And, thirty Gs will buy a dandy.

Forgot to mention iboats has an extensive directory of used and new boats for sale. It's searchable by location, type of boat, price, age, etc. and is very helpful.

When you begin the search in earnest you will also find this a good place to get advice regarding what to look for, what to pay, etc. Just remember, said advice will be worth what you pay for it.

Agree! A Pontoon boat is probably perfect. You can drive, ride, bar b que, swim off, cruise...

A lucky dad indeed.

I'm 67 years old, live in S.C. now and would 2nd the pontoon idea, and you wouldn't have to spend $30K to get a nice one! He'd probably love it, especially with a new and very quiet 4 stroke motor! I wish my deadbeat yuppy son would buy me a boat, but I'm lucky if he even calls me once a week!

If he is in Georgetown he will most likely boat on the intercoastal
Not sure that I would want a pontoon
It seems that quite a few older gentlemen have center consoles
Maybe someone elas from this area can chime in
