What tire pressure should I be running?

Hi all, just brought the boat out of the garage for the "de-winterization" process today. I noticed that the tires were low ~ 32 psi (as expected). The tire says max pressure 50 psi cold. Does this mean to inflate to 50 psi (max) or should I be safe and keep them at 40 psi cold? Last season I ran them at 40 psi and forgot to ask last year. The trailer is a matched Fisher to my boat which is a Fisher 16 Sport Avenger Aluminum with a 75 Mercury on it. Thanks in advance for any info.

Run them at 45-50psi, Minnow.

They will run cooler at higher pressures and last longer.

Good luck. :)

JB's advice is on target for your over the road towing.

However, one other factor to consider is your launch conditions. Things won't be so bad with 40-50 psi if you are launching from a concrete or paved ramp; but pulling out of mud or sand when the trailer tires have gone south could make things a little more difficult.

Kevin

SS Minnow

Inflate the tires to the pressure stated on the tire. The trailer's capacity is directly rated to your tire pressure. If you look at your tire sidewall it will indicate what the tire capacity is, at the stated pressure. Keeping your pressure lower than that stated will in fact decrease carrying capacity.

i never knew how important it was for the trailer tires to be inflated properly. go with 50 psi. i finally did during my last trip and it was amazing how well it towed.
