A walk off homer is one in the bottom of the 9th inning that puts the home team ahead.

Guy hits a homer, his team is now ahead. They win. Game is over. He walks off the field.

I've see 'em, I been hearing about 'em, but I still ain't sure what the heck a walk-off homer is. I've asked around and have gotten a couple or three different answers. Anyone care to jump in?

A walk off HR is when the defensive team gives up a Hr in the9th, 10th, 11th etc and the defense has to walk off the field. There are walk off hits as well. Example...Man on third (tie score)batter hits a shot to the outfield , run scores, defense "Walks off" It Humiliating!!

A walk off can only happen for a home team, as they bat last in an inning.

It's the equivalent of "sudden death" in other sports: a game-ending score with no time on the clock.
