what tach setting for 1996 50 hp Force/merc

I just bought a 1996 Force 50 hp and installed it on my 13 ft Boston Whaler Classic. Now I need to try and figure out what <br />Prop to put on this rig so I bought a tach. The tach I bought has seetings for 2,3,4,5,--10. I have been told that all outboards use a 12. <br />Can any one verify if I can use this one that works with a 10 pul or do I need to send this one back and get one that has a 12? <br /><br />Also, I have seen both terms Pole and Pul used. can any one explane this to me?

early 1987 use 50 hp. switch position 4P @ALTERNATOR POLE 8

I think you need the 6P position for your motor...<br /><br /> check me
