Tried searching the archives, but no clear answers on parts cross-compatability among different years for this item.

Specifically, I have a '64 40HP Evinrude BIG TWIN, that currently has a pull rope only setup.

It'd be nice to convert to an electric starter, provided I had some reference numbers for compatible starters/brackets to get the right part.

Would the electric starter off a '69 55HP Evinrude be compatible (as I have an offer for one off a parts motor, but it's unseen thus far, so no way to determine compatability other than the experience and wisdom of those in the know). Thanks

It's a 3 cylinder '69 55HP for parts, if that factors in.

Also, I'd need a compatible flywheel, as the current one installed doesn't have any serrations for the starter teeth to engage. Thanks, AlexeiVT

I believe you can use a starter/flywheel/starter bracket setup from a '61-'71 (and probably further) 40, 33, or 28hp engine. They're most common on the 40hp engines though. The best starters will have an additional bracket on the bottom of them which screws into the manifold. These have a little more torque. I believe they were used about '65+.
Technically you can use earlier starters, and 18hp starters, but the brackets and flywheels are different.
There are literally thousands of those starter/flywheel/bracket setups out there, as they were very popular on those very popular engines. Sometimes it's worth simply purchasing an entire dead donor engine. You can often steal the solenoid and wiring harness from those as well.

The 55hp starter is different and incompatible.
