Can anyone tell me what starter I need. I have a 1988 454 with a bravo one. Serial # B849705 on original engine. Does anyone know the part number for the starter I need. Thanks

Look at the holes on the starter where the bolts pass through to bolt the starter to the block. If the bolt holes are oriented in a strait line __ like that, then you need a 8 inch. If the starter bolt holes are oriented in a diagonal line / like that, then you need a 12 inch.

Your block was machined to use either the 153 or 168 tooth flywheel. A 153 tooth (smaller diameter) flywheel uses the strait bolt style starter. The 168 tooth (larger diameter) flywheel uses the cross bolted starter. These starters ARE NOT interchangeable. You need to match the new starter bolt pattern with your old starter bolt pattern.

Ayuh,... The Starter follows the Flywheel.....;)

Don't matter how the block is drilled...
