I have a 1542 jon boat and am going to buy a trolling motor, I was wondering what would be a good size for it. All info is appreciated.

Re: what size trolling motor?

I use a 38 pounder on my 14' jon.
I can hold a position in a breeze or 4 knot current without any problem.

Re: what size trolling motor?

I have a 1442, with a 40# on the stern and a 55# on the bow. I bought the 40 first and although its fine for just manuevering the boat, I should have listened to those that told me to get the biggest one I could. If I go over on the river with a fairly strong current the 40 will just keep me even. I bigger motor on a lower speed setting won't use any more current and maybe less than a smaller motor on the max setting. A flat bottom aluminum boat will spin like a top with a gusty side wind, so I often use both TM's on a low setting, especially trolling to keep me going in a straight line.
