What size seals do I need for bearing repack?

I went to the automotive shop the other week to pick up a pair of "Double lip" seals in order to repack my bearings. The guy at the counter said they have many sizes and asked me which one I need. How can I find out without taking the bearings apart? I have a 1997 single axle zeman trailer.

Also, I believe there is a cotter pin I will need to replace too when repacking the bearings-- what size cotter pins should I pick up? Anything else that might be size/type specific? Thanks very much!

you might have ? really

the most common is 1-1/16 outer with a 1-3/8 inner with a coupple of different seal OD,s

but there is no standard so the only way to be sure is to listen to the parts guy and take it apart

after that keep it written down and you wont have to worry again

tommays

If you don't want to take apart the hub first to determine what parts are needed, why not contact the mfr and get the specs from them ? As tommays pointed out, there are several different sizes but not a standard.

Ayuh,........... I Agree........

The Only way to Know for Sure is to take it apart,+ Check the Part #s,.....
All the Bearings,+ Seals will have the #s printed/stamped on them.............

Cotter Pins on the other hand Are Standardized...........

1/8th"X 2"s will get the job done.......
