I have a 20 " bayliner trophy Boat around 2600 pounds . I wanted to know what size kicker I would need to troll at 5-6 miles pr. hr. I now have a 25 hp but its a little heavy and wanted to go with a 15 hp or 9'9 if I could get away with it . Thanks for the input and merry HO H o ! JB

Re: What size Kicker ?

Think of it as a back up and not a trolling motor, a 9.9 would be next to useless, the 15 might be ok, I personally would stick with the 25 and move unwanted stuff forward.

Personally I would think either a 9.9 or a 15 would be fine and that 25 is overkill. But I wouldn't go any smaller than 9.9. That's pretty fast for trolling, so a 15 may be more appropriate for that speed than a 9.9. If your main motor is a 4-stroke, I'd pass on the kicker altogether and just use the main motor.

I agree with Willy. 5-6 mph is not trolling, its "snagging". d:) With that size boat use the big motor. But then if you want the security that goes with a kicker, a 15 would be a good choice.

Since most 9.9 and 15's are the same weight and size, err on the side of more power and go with the 15. In that size, two strokes are around 75lbs and four strokes are around 100-110lbs.
