That's hard to say, really, since the dealer may have swapped props for the customer when it was originally purchased. That's a common practice. So, without any markings, it could be hard to say. Is there no part number on the prop at all?

My buddy is the one who bought the boat new a few weeks ago and he didn't have the dealer to change out props. I've looked all over for a part number or prop size, but can't find anything. He wants to put a SS prop on it, but I wanted to know what he's running now before we went up or down on pitch.

thanks

Have you taken the prop off the motor? I have a prop that I couldn't find a number until I took the prop nut off & it was on the hub under the washer.

You may want to give the stainless a second thought. They are heavier and tougher. They put more stress on the drive train. If you hit something the aluminum prop will generally break before the drivetrain. You can get fairly sofisticated aluminum props. You need to know your pitch now and your present rpm and the max reccomended rpm to know where to go when changing props. Before changing props check the motor trim both in and out and virtically. If you can raise the motor an inch you could gain close to 3 mph.More sofisticated props can aid in fine tuning motor trim.

has the WOT RPM been verified with the current prop? if there are no part numbers a trip to the prop shop is in order. they can tell you what pitch it is with pitch blocks.
on the little motors stainless wheels can shoten the life span of the gear case. most times the oil is not changed often enough when running AL props and gets worse with stainless.

I am a pack rat. I still have my 1988 Evinrude Engine Brochure. I bought a 25hp. this year. The specs. list a 10"diameter x 13" pitch for the 25hp. and 20hp. They list a 10"diameter x 15" pitch for the tuned 30hp. I don't think OMC/Bombardier has changed this engine much over the years. The basic design is hard to beat. I also own other Rudes; a 3hp w/folding lower unit and case, a 6hp, and my favorite fishing motor 9.9hp. If you take care of your new Johnson it will give you years of dependable service.
