What size engine??

[Steel 6]

I have a 1967 StarCraft StarChief 18.5 aluminum boat. It will be used for Bay Fishing ( up to 3' waves ) - and would like a cruising speed in the 30's ...

Question is, what would the minimum horsepower needed to do this?

The current engine does not run and I have never used this boat.


I believe this boat was rated for 110HP - But I'm basically looking for my minimum, since more HP = more $$

With out steering you wrong and knowing that I am as far from an expert as you can get:
Id say in the 75 to 100 HP range.
Find the max power the boat is rated for and go 10 to 20 below that.
What was on it?

You probably need 70HP+ to get into the low 30s. Of course, a lot depends on the load in the boat.
