Re: What size block is this

I have the same engine (1976) and plan on installing a Pertronix Ignitor II from vintageperformance.com to replace the points in mine. I will also be replacing the original 1976 coil with a new Flamethrower 35-40k volt marine coil. There are two pertronix kits for this engine. The standard Ignitor and the Ignitor II. They do the same job (I is about $70 and II is $100) but the II has an automatic shutoff feature if you leave the key onn with teh engine off. It also auto adjusts dwell to some extent. You can look it us as a Mercruiser 888. I believe the kit Trent pointed you to is the standard Ignitor or its equivelant.

Just to echo Trent, it is a 302. Good engine :)

OK, yes and no. It is a 302 block with 351 heads and 351 cam. Because of the cam, the firing order is different than a run of the mill 302.

Be careful when getting engine parts. My 888 had been replaced with an engine using 302 heads.
