We have just acquired a 30lb thrust Minnkota Electric Trolling Motor and are wondering what size of a 12 V batter to hook it up to.

Some recommend a full-size car battery, some say those really little 12 v batteries (not sure what they're called). Any comments?

(p.s. we're using the motor on a 1200 lb capacity inflatable boat.)

Thanks.

Ahoy, Kimmers. You want a DEEP CYCLE 12 volt battery. Physically? As big and heavy as you think you can handle if you are going to use it as your primary propulsion. Also, be sure you get a charger designed to recharge deep cycle batteries. . . .they must be charged at very low rates compared to starter batteries. Wal-Mart has a good selection of inexpensive (relatively) deep cycle batteries and chargers.

Red sky at night. . .sailor's delight.
JB
