I pulled the risers off my new motor to install cc system.2007 Merc 5.7 carbed.dry-joint.Looks like three different sealers from factory.#1 Silver colored, pliable on the main part of the gaskets.#2 I think clear but kinda gooie onthe red rubber ring part of the gasket.#3 a little red in the threads of the 4 riser bolts. What is this stuff? Are there alternatives to Locktite 510?I can't seem to locate any of that stuff around here and I was told Permatex bought Loktite and are slowly "phaseing out their products.

That Loctite 510 is obsolete information, and has not been recommended on riser gaskets in 10 years, plus, that was for the older style manifolds and risers, not the DryJoint style you have now.
Now you NEED new gaskets, and if the surefaces of the manifold and/or risers is bare metal use a thin coating of perfect seal. Not so much for sealing (the gaskets do that) but for corrosion prevention.

Thanks AGAIN Don.I guess updating from the 96 to the 2007 means I should get a NEW UPDATED manual. You know whats really crappy?I go to the dealer where I just got the new motor and ask what to use,The SOB gives me an old book and says they use the 510,but doesn't have any.Same place that rented me the WRONG alignment bar(old merc).Basicly tried to blame me for that one.Said they needed to know I had the greasable coupler.(then why didn't you ask the first time).Oh ya,THEY ARE THE ONES THAT JUST SOLD IT TO ME.???When I asked for the bar all they asked was the year, and then gave me the wrong bar.A**holes.Very unhelpful, especially for a place where I,ve spent about $13,000 CASH in the last year1/2.New merc 5.7 and new yamaha high thrust 8hp kicker(which they convinced me would push me 24 footer around just as well as the 15 hp I was looking to purchace.Shoulda got the 15! Thanks Don you're awesome. When you get to Ocean Shores, you'll be just over 100 miles from me.Not that you're much need info will travel any faster through the wires.

Your engine is also NOT registered. So if you ever want some warranty, you better have your dealer register it. Merc will send you a registration card in the mail.

You are absolutely right Don.I,m just getting it in the boat and I,ll get on that right away. The dealer where I bought the motor, not too helpful.I found a small shop about 15-20 miles away from me today.Older gent who actually WORKS on them and knows his stuff. Also knows the proper pruducts(and carries them, unlike the other local "shops")Like perfect seal,Special Lube 101(dealer didn't even know what it is)the Blue grease,(coupler& gimble bearing)my "dealer"doesn't carry, had that too,the spacers for the rear mounts(I already used ss washers),He was totally familiar with and said that what I did should be fine.
