What prop will reduce cavitation?

When i trim out my small outboard im experiencing a lot of propeller cavitation. Someone suggested getting the prop cupped. would this help? also would a biger prop help? Thanks.

Yes, more cupping will help considerably. A 4-bladed prop can help this too, especially when cornering.<br /><br />Not sure what you mean by a "bigger" prop? Prop size is all a matter of rpm and boat/motor set up. Sometimes a bigger diameter and smaller pitch prop will give more bow lift and less cavitation (ventilation).

could you give use a boat size and motor size.it sounds like you may be tring to trim farther than possible to gain more speed,need a bigger motor?Do you have tilt and trim? waynebo

Hi, Cavitation/Ventilation are not interchangeable they are two different things.You need to know which is your problem and go that direction. Use the search feature on this board and find that this topic has been hashed out before.<br />steve

If it is your 25 suzuki, you might want to check if the outboard is level with the bottom of the boat (some one else here can explane how to do that) I don't know if there are much props for that small of an engine.

You are getting ventilation, not cavitation, Jason. <br /><br />When you trim it out too far the prop is grabbing air. No prop change would make any difference.<br /><br />Do as Sloopy suggests. Make sure you have the correct length shaft and that it is rigged correctly. Then don't trim it out so far.<br /><br />Good luck.
