Hey guys I have aquired a 17' Galaxie with a 120 Mercrusier. I have gotten engine purring like a kitten and ready for some serious fun this summer what should I do as PM for outdrive. Is there a simple way to test driveline...I see several alimites on gimbal housing...just shoot them with grease or do I need to partially disassy?....thanks for your help guys...

Lower unit's need to be pressure tested and serviced yearly propshaft seals will always need attention if a boats been sitting idle for long periods my dealer charges me between 350.00 and 500.00 depending on whether or not bearings are needed keep it lubed and keep free from water intrusion and it will live ignore it and let it sit with water in the lower units gearcase and it'll cost ya

You really dont need to pressure check them every year. Just drain the lower unit lube and check for water. If their is water then pressure check.

Pull drive and grease the u-joints and grease all the fittings. Replace water pump impeller every two or three years. Check the bellows for dry rot and cracking. Remove the propeller and check for fishing line around the prop shaft and then grease with marine grease.

All this normally takes me about 1.5 hours tops.

When you pull the outdrive be sure to lubricate the splines on the driveshaft. Also check the gimbal bearing and look through the hole at the splines in the engine coupler. Also, look particularly close at the valleys in the shift cable bellows for any signs of cracking. If there is any doubt change it. If it cracks the boat will take on water surprisingly fast.
