Re: WHat motor should I buy please share
The 76 has a self-energized, sensor-powerpack system. The last triple with points was 1971.

The 50 twins were pretty wimpy when they first came out. I've had a 1971 & a 1974 and neither had any bottom-end power. By 1988, OMC may have gotten them squared away - anybody owned a newer one who can comment?

Unless the 50s got stronger, I'd be leery of trying to ski or tube on a 17-footer. If you do run it, make sure you prop it right - it wants to rev high.

The 70s are a good motor. What kind of shape is it in?

Either motor, you want to check the compression before you buy. Ideally, you want to run it on the lake for 20 minutes or so, and get a 30 day return. Check the fluid in the lower unit AFTER the lake test. Clean the carbs & put a new impeller in it unless you're sure it's just been done.

What happened to just running that old 60hp? If you find and fix the cause of the seizure, run the first tank of gas through it at 32/1. That should smooth out the rough spots, and it may keep running for a while. Plan on picking up another motor in October when they're cheap. I keep an old Homelite XL-12 chainsaw for a backup. It seized on straight gas 15 years ago, still runs fine & puts out decent power, though it has maybe 50% the compression it had new.

Good luck, either way.
