If I knew what to disconect to keep from having all these little things go wrong I would do it. Kinda like my riding more, jumped out the seat switch, replace tires with solid tires from Harbor Frieght use shims. This Tohatsu 9.8 is a good motor if they didn't try to improve it with little things. The shaft is not American length, the gas tank is EPA , when hot you can't pull start without some real smarts, Please some one put out a booklet with little problems solved, not counting Carb Problems, When does it end?

Thank your government for the EPA stuff, including the carb, which leads to the restart requirements. All OB's of all brands today are metric length, BTW.

2-stroke motors are still sold outside of North America; For that matter, the Tohatsu TLDI (from 40 to 115 hp) is technically 2-stroke technology. Small outboards were forced into 4-stroke for emissions about 2004, give or take. Today, everyone wants the quiet, fuel-sipping 4-strokers. Except for those of us who work on them :)
