I have always been a mercury man way back in the fiftys. They were mercurys. The new smaller ones are made by tohatsu. Mercurys have always been the fastest and most easy on gas,run forever and never brake down. I have had a lot of them, and all sizes, maybe I have just been luckey. Here is my problem. I bought a 14 ft alumn. with a 1962 rude. 10 hp. The motor was free. I put points and coils and changed the water pump. The motor runs good but I remember omc always being hogs on gas. I need a bigger motor, boat is rated for 30 hp. Does anybody have any exspearence with these tohatsu motors? How is the fuel econamy, and are they strong? Mecury is the same but a lot more money. The difference is the shift on the tiller, not worth the extra money. I would like to buy a new mark 20, but times have changed. I have always had 2 stroke motors. Does anyone still make one? [without any sarcasm] What would you suggest for a fuel efficient 15-20 hp engine. I go about 5 miles a day.
