what lower unit oil?

I just bought an older boat with a '72 evinrude 50 hp (model #01339)with hydraulic shift and have been told that should not run the standard 80/90 weight oil in the lower unit. is there any truth to this? what oil should I use?

you were told correct. you should use a lighter blend which is available from dealers and i believe wal-mart carries it also.Not sure of weight off the top of my head.The heavier oil can cause some expensive problems with the hyd pump.<br /><br /><br />------------------<br />no replacement for displacement!

Type C gear oil, no substitutes.
