look like dumb tabs . . . static, not hydralic
I would run a set of Bennett M120 sporttabs
There is more going on with your "Dumb Tabs" than meets the eye.
The slotted bracket with the Wing Nut give you an adjustment.
The mounting is an Unequal-Parallelogram.
As the rear of the Tab gets pushed up by the water, The entire tab is lowered deeper into the water.
At some point the Tab will stabilize and self adjust.
Just because we don't understand how something work doesn't mean it is junk!
Do I think they are "Dumb Tabs?" NO! There is actually a lot of engineering behind them!
Would I replace them with Smart Tabs? YES!
Also, check out the Smart Tabs SX line From Nauticus. Rated for up to 25ft hulls w/250hp.
Why? I run smart tabs on a 26 foot boat that weighs in at about 7500 to 8000 loaded. Whats the issue? Mine work great and improved performance more than a hydraulic tab controlled by the operator ever could. Just saying.one of them is missing two of the mounting bolts.
if your boat is larger than 18', I would go to bennett tabs.
On a 19 foot boat do you even NEED trim tabs? I know many people swear by them, but more boats of that size don't have trim tabs than do. I'd just take them off, fill the holes (after inspecting for any moist wood in the transom) and give it a shot without tabs. If you have problems with the way the boat handles (won't plane, lists, etc.) then look into adding trim tabs to address those issues.
that makes complete sense, from the way they move up and down i can see just what you're talking about....i'll ride with these until i have the extra cash to throw at the sx smart tabs, ty!
