Those are just old school tabs, look into the smart tabs, everyone seems to be happy with them, just have to set up the preload

lmao, yeah dumb tabs is what i was thinking....they move up n down, but without any pressure...like they could just flap in the wind....do they even help at all? and i would get power power tabs but i drive with 1 arm hence the name...so i wouldnt want to be taking my hand off the steering wheel to mess with trim all the time...

one of them is missing two of the mounting bolts.

if your boat is larger than 18', I would go to bennett tabs.

i seen that also...theres 3 bolts holding each 1 on...the hole you are seeing doesnt even have a hole in the hull where ther would have been a bolt...but yes it looks like it should have 1 more

and its a 19 footer

On a 19 foot boat do you even NEED trim tabs? I know many people swear by them, but more boats of that size don't have trim tabs than do. I'd just take them off, fill the holes (after inspecting for any moist wood in the transom) and give it a shot without tabs. If you have problems with the way the boat handles (won't plane, lists, etc.) then look into adding trim tabs to address those issues.

There is more going on with your "Dumb Tabs" than meets the eye.

The slotted bracket with the Wing Nut give you an adjustment.
The mounting is an Unequal-Parallelogram.
As the rear of the Tab gets pushed up by the water, The entire tab is lowered deeper into the water.
At some point the Tab will stabilize and self adjust.

Just because we don't understand how something work doesn't mean it is junk!

Do I think they are "Dumb Tabs?" NO! There is actually a lot of engineering behind them!
Would I replace them with Smart Tabs? YES!

Also, check out the Smart Tabs SX line From Nauticus. Rated for up to 25ft hulls w/250hp.

Why? I run smart tabs on a 26 foot boat that weighs in at about 7500 to 8000 loaded. Whats the issue? Mine work great and improved performance more than a hydraulic tab controlled by the operator ever could. Just saying.:p

Also, the op already said he has one arm, the smart tabs would be perfect for him. They can even be installed with one arm. ;)

Every stern driven boat will benifit from trim tabs, maybe you should look into some. ;) Doesn't matter the size of the boat.

Op, I would replace them with the smart tabs, you will improve performance in more areas than those will ever give you. Just contact nauticus with the size and weight of your boat and they will direct to the right size tabs/actuators you will need.

Good Deal! :)

You already have "Intelligent Tabs" they are just 20 years old. (Wild Guess!)
A good cleaning and a coat of paint would make them look new.
Get some lube into them, and for all our sakes, re-calk the transom mount and make sure all the screws are in place. :D
