I have a 1991 Force 50. What is the best oil to use with what octane fuel??

I heard that there was a synthetic mix available for oil, too. Any hints?

Thanks to all!

Z :D :) :D

zoltar,

You can use synthetic if you want to. It's not necessary.

Use a high qulaity TCW-3 rated oil. Mix it 50:1 (one pint per six gallons) with 87 octane unleaded fuel. Higher octanes are not needed or recommended.

Amsoil is 100% Synthetic at < $20 per gallon.
Nearly smokeless, biodegradeable, clean burning, reduces plug fouling and piston deposits.

Dave

Is the Walmart supertech oil synthetic, or just a good TCW-3 rated oil?? What do you think about Oilman's comment. Is the synthetic stuff worth it? I have read a lot on this forum that the Force motors run very dirty - so maybe it wold help (?).

Thanks!

Z :p  :p

Walmart supertech is plain old good dino oil. Amsoil is a very good synthetic. It may help with the carbon build-up, but you can decarb it once in a while for a whole lot less.

I realllllllllllllllllly like the synthetic blend lubes like running 10:1 but fowls and smokes like your running 10000000:1! the 100% synthetic stuff smells like playdough! and I have had bad luck with it as of yesterday when wintering a chainsaw...

:)

I use Pennzoil Marine synthetic blend and love it so much that I will now write from memory every thing on the bottle

Pennzoil Marine Premium Plus Outboard 2- Cycle oil, Synthetic Blend certified nmma TC-W3
Exceeds Warranty Requirements
specially Formulated for oil injected systems
32 FL OZ (1 US QT) .946 litre

on the back:
Pennzoil Marine
stock No. 3871
Premium plus outboard 2-cycle oil
certified nmma TC-W3(tm)
specially formulated for use in high performance engines that require extra protection
*keep spark plugs clean
*protects against piston Scuffing
*keeps exhaust parts clean
*Protects against ring sticking
*added engine protection
*performs in extreme conditions
Recommended for pre-mix and injector systems.
Exceeds the highest NMMA requirements and the most stringent engine manufacturer warranties incuding Johnson/evinrude Mercury marine, Yamaha, Suzuki, Nisson, Force/US marine, Mariner, Sears and all others requiring TC-W3 oil
Always follow the dilution ratio and oil performance level recomended in the owners manual
Blend chart
aproved where NMMA (formerly BIA) TC-W(tm). Hey Sloopy-

So are you saying you like the synthetic stuff - or do not? Or is that you just like the Pennzoil stuff only as far as the synth stuff is concerned?

I'ts worth a try I guess. I am also going to use the Seafoam when the boat goes back in this spring.

My plugs get VERY dirty and grimy - so if the synthetic burns cleaner - then it may be a wise choice.

Comments anyone? Thank you.

Zoltar

If your plugs get grimy and dirty, imagine what the top of your piston and behind your rings looks like! Use a top quality synthetic and you won't have to do the de-carbon thing -- an ounce of prevention......
BTW, Pennzoil uses a Group III base stock as their "synthetic". Group III base stocks are petroleum with an extra refining step. Amsoil and Royal Purple are true synthetics. I'm not sure that the RP is TCW-3 rated though?

Hmmm, ok, I have a 1972 evenrude 125HP. I use Super (Lead replacement Petrol) which has a 96% octane level using Shell Nautilus Premium Outboard Oil at 50:1. I use the Super because thats what the guy who I brought it off said to use.

My question then is this: Should I be using super or unleaded for the mix?

G'Day, Jas.

It is usually a good idea to make a new thread with a new question. That way you get attention from those of us who believe that Zoltar's question is solved.

You are not likely to do any harm using Super, except that the lead/lead replacement additives are not good for 2 strokes. Even in the days of mostly leaded fuels here, most manufacturers recommended lead free fuel.

You should probably use unleaded, 91 octane by OZ system.

Good luck. :)

Oil Man:

Thanks for your input. Im gonna try sythetic this summer and hope she runs cleaner. First thing Ill do is use the seafoam - then run it hard to burn up any leftover buildup!

ZM
