Just for fun, you have just saved the life of the only daughter of a multi-millionaire. He has decided to reward you with any boat you want.
Criteria:
1) Boat will be purchased outright for you, price is no object.
2) You, however, must pay for all fuel, maintenance, upkeep, insurance, repairs, etc.
3) This will be your only boat for the next 15 years, and at the end, it will have ZERO resale value.
4) You have an annual income of $100,000. (and live in a normal town, I know $100,000 doesn't go far in NYC or San Francisco)
5) Boat must be trailerable, and your only tow vehicle has a tow rating of 10,000 lbs. You must keep it legal, and only you can tow your boat.
6) Boat will be used in both salt water (not necessarily open ocean) and fresh - Percentage of each is up to you.
7) Your typical outing will consist of 4 persons, but occasionally will take more people out.

Which boat and Why?

Re: What is your "dream" boat.

Too many "ifs".

*I am very unlikely to live another 15 years.
*I don't live in a "normal" town, whatever that might be.
*A hundred grand would normally last me 4 years.
*A normal trip for me would be 2 or 3 people, never more. I boat to fish.

I am old enough that my dreams and ambitions have been replaced by wonderful memories, so my answer would be to once again have my 1983 Boston Whaler classic Outrage 18 (Sunshine II) with a Suzuki DF140 on it. I would also have to have my 1999 Mercedes Benz ML430 (Ole Blue) to tow her and the hundred grand a year to cover fuel, insurance, fuel, upkeep, fuel and other travel expenses such as lodging at Lake Of The Woods and Key West and, um, fuel.

And while we are dreaming the impossible dream, how about a driver (I can't drive at night anymore), fishing buddy and "personal assistant"? :)

I'd probably get a 202 Baja Islander with a 350 SBC. It would be similiar to my current boat, but it would have more power! :D

Re: What is your "dream" boat.

Old style Mahogany boat with a nice sounding V8 in it. I could afford to keep and maintain that.

But as long as we're fantasizing...

I'd like a 22'ish trawler (Dory planing hull). Nice sized wheelhouse, wooden wheel, radar, gps, vhf, brass bell all that stuff. Something I can tool around the Inter Coastal from say Apalachicola on over to Gulf Shores or so. Needs some room to sleep 2. :):):) Why? It would remind me of Grandad's shrimp boat.

An exact replica of the boat the hardy boys had. It was a wooden inboard about 18 feet long and name it the same name "the sluith". My real dream is to finish the one and most likely only one I ever will. a 60 crestliner falcon runaboult with a 30merc.

A 24' Boston Whaler Outrage, with a couple of ETECs on the back, not too big because I don't like to go a million miles per hour, would be pretty cool.

A Conquest 345, with three ETEC 300 hp engines would be even more cool, but that hundred grand would have to be per month to feed the darn thing!
