I always used Stabil, but have recently (read the last year) been using Seafoam. What do you use and why?

Both are good products but I like Startron:

Star Brite Star Tron Gas Additive - iboats

For the following reasons:

1) Has gotten excellent write ups in the trade journals
2) Stabilizes the fuel
3) Cleans out carbon deposits in motor
4) Cleans fuel injectors
5) Helps to eliminate water build up in Ethanol fuel before phase separation can occur
6) You don't have to measure the exact amount to put in and you can't put in too much
7) If you put it in with each fill up as I do you don't ever have to worry about stabilizing the fuel at the end of the season
8) Keeps your gas tank free of gook and nice and clean
9) Basically one bottle does it all. Stabilizes, Cleans, Protects

I've used it for 3 years now and swear by the stuff.

Either/or works fine. Really comes down to personal preference. If you do a search, you'll come up with many threads about this subject......

Re: What is your choice for fuel stabilizer?

I use Startron Diesel in my farm diesel storage tanks and it works fine to keep algae, caused by moisture in the tank at bay, and the stored fuel immaculate. Problem is nobody sells it around here and I have to order it from the OEM. Yeah it's Naptha (which Naptha???) and enzymes, OEM protected formula, and works. I know of other places where the little "Pac Men" work great and I'm not a chemist so I don't know that they can or can't survive the environment but do know that they work so they must survive.

I never used any fuel additives till I joined this site and heard of Sea Foam. Have been running it ever sense on my 2 strokers and have proven it's effectiveness. I bought a new chain saw and weed eater thinking my existing ones were shot. One day I was bored so I got some SF and revived both of them. I ran my carbs on my Merc. from '04 till '12 without touching them. When I opened them up the inside had zero varnish.

I use Stabil in my small hp 4 stroke engines around the farm as some have fuel sitting for a long time as it seems to be primarily for that purpose. Seems to work for me.

Everybody has their opinion. I used to be a mechanicing freak and was always tearing into mechanical things just to be doing it. Today I am older, wiser, and lazier, and I let chemicals do the work for me. Their nominal cost is way more that justified by their performance (for me).

I swore I'd never comment on this subject again......so much for swearin'.

I've always used Stabil and still do. Had good luck with it over the years.

I use seafoam in everything I own with a motor. As you can see, boobie gets good results with Stabil. Don't think you can go wrong with either....

Both are awesome products. Do you store with full treated tanks or do you ruun treated gas thru them then drain the tanks/carb?

Yes. You're going to get all kinds of answers. This subject too has been discussed in length. Some fill their tanks, some drain and others like myself leave whatever is in there at the end of the season. If you leave any fuel at all in your tank, treat the fuel and run it to circulate the stabilizer thru the fuel system....
