I'm new to boating and I just bought this '89 Bayliner Capri about 3 weeks ago. I'm looking under the dash and I have no idea what this is. Can you help?

It's an audiolarm... from Bell. Seriously, it's the thing that beeps when you have a problem.... low oil pressure for example.

warning buzzer, usually warns of overheating problem on an outboard.

If you hear it, stop before the motor is toast.

Re: What is this?

I would say with great certainty that it is an 'Audioalarm' made by Bell. :)

If you have not heard the alarm sound yet, then perhaps it is not hooked up? If you turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine, you should hear the buzzer sound in about 5 seconds.

What sort of engine does the boat have?

Wow... this is a sharp group. Only the crack team of experts at iboats could have figured it out.

iwaterdave... tell us about the engine. Most Bayliners had Force outboards. This is a curious bunch. If you take a pic of the engine, and the name of the engine is still on the cowling, the crack team of experts here might be able to figure out what kind of engine it is.

I don't think it works that way with Bayliner. It only comes on when the heat sensor is tripped. That's the way my 1988 is working. Doesn't look original, with the clip on connections. Should be screw on. Should be secured just under the steering column.
