Can any one tell me what this is on the top side of the drive shaft housing plate. This plate is no.17,
part no.66100a2 in the Mercury parts book for this engine. This thing is in the top of a hole and the
water tube is the bottom of same hole in this plate. This is the plate between the exhaust plate and
the drive shaft housing. Whatever this thing is, it fits in a hole in the gasket no.13 part no.27-66102.
Is this something that is there to cut down the water flow ? or should it be removed?..............HAS
I always seem to have trouble with pictures!!

Re: What is this ?

Can't see your pics. By your description sounds like it is the upper seal for the water tube. Same seal is used in water pump housing for tube also.

gwukena I`ll dig it out, if it is a melted seal it is the only thing that shows any heat damage. THANKS .................HAS

HAs, Inspect the water tube. Sometimes they can get crushed. Gwukena is correct about the seal. Every waterpump repair kit will have one, for the waterpump cover, but it fits both places.
