I'm not having much luck with my 2014 Nissan 30 HP tach hookup. Bought a Tiny Tach and the readings seem to be erratic. I also have an old Honda tach made in 1999 which I tried to what I thought or think is the tach wire, and yes I supplied the 12 volts with no luck.

Or better yet what would the RPM be with the 9.9X11 pitch be?

Welcome to Iboats,

4 strokes around 800, 2 strokes around 1000 at idle/neutral, what are your erratic readings ?

Incorrect. The MFS9.8A3 idles correctly at about 950 RPM in gear.
The tach wires are white and yellow. For wired -- you must use an alternator tach (not an ignition tach), and it must be set to correspond to the correct number of alternator poles.

Sorry for not providing enough info. My Tiny Tach reads 4000-4100 at WOT, which I know is not correct. With my current pitched prop, 9.9x11 I was wondering what the WOT RPMs might be then I can avoid the whole tach issue all together. The purpose of this is so I can get another prop as a spare or maybe one that offers slightly better top end speed. Maybe a 12 pitch?? or a Spitefire??

I tried to post a pic but couldn't shrink it down enough for the web page. Hence the title, What is this wire. I'll try again in a lower resolution setting.

Something fishy with web site uploads. I get error messages but then they get posted....oh well. Sorry the duplicates

Keep in mind that the MFS25/30 is a 3-cylinder. The tiny tach may not have a setting for that. We use the real Tohatsu tachometer, triggered by the white alternator wire, and grounded by the yellow wire.
