What is this monstrosity?

Hey all,
I recently picked up a boat, motor, and trailer for cheap...really cheap! Anyhow, the boat was rotten (which I knew), the trailer was in great shape(which I needed), and the motor runs hot on one side(which is a bad head gasket). What I believed to be an Evinrude 90, turns out to be a 90, with a 140 powerhead, or so I am here to figure out.
On the housing are the numbers-- Model# E90TLC?A (cant determine the #) Serial# R1825907
On the Powerhead, looking from the back of the motor, on the left side is a round tag with 2 rows of numbers. The first row is J140TLC1M or IM (cant tell the second to last number) the row beneath this is 15508458.
On the powerhead, looking from the rear, in the center behind the flywheel on the block is stamped: D&MS3B1HA12393.
With all of this, can someone possibly tell me what I have here? What year is the powerhead? what year is the other section?

Also, if it is a 140, did they come with a tattletale? this one has none. From the rear of the engine, the right side water jacket has 2 rubber plugs that I was told were water diverters (to assure that water goes around the upper cylinder?)Is that the correct amount? 2?
I have pulled the head and found that it has a bad head gasket and was allowing the lower cylinder to get water into it. Easy fix if I can get the year of the powerhead.

Thanks for your help, Dave

Looks like a 140 hp powerhead on a 90 hp leg.

Re: What is this monstrosity?

The [Edit] 1981 140 block has two water deflectors in each head. They are critical to proper function and should be in good condition and properly placed.

Aside from the powerhead, the rest of the motors parts are virtually identical between the 90 and 140. The lower right hand corner of the exhaust cover should have a tapped outlet for a tell-tale if you want to add one. OEM parts will be less than $15.00 US if you use them.

[Edit] Yes, 1981. The CI in the model number tells you the year.

The C? in the rest of the motor's model number tells you 198?, but it definitely is not an A after the C. It will be one of the letters in INTRODUCES, where I=1, N=2, T=3, etc.

WOW, Thanks guys! I knew This forum would come through for me! The picture of the deflectors is icing on the cake! They are in the correct place and in good shape.

One more question though, the tag on the powerhead starts with a J, would this possibly mean that its a Johnson ? Just curious...Dave

Right, Johnson powerhead. The only difference between the Evinrude and the Johnson is that letter and the paint.
