what is this? merc 1988 120hp engine

Hey guys.

I was wondering what this part is (circled in blue ) on a mercruiser 2.5L 120hp 1988
Also where are the two red wired supposed to be going? i know the thicker one is to battery but what about the other one to the left that is longer and looped around with a ziptie?

Ayuh,... That's the Starter...
The Other wire might go to the trim pump...

reason i ask is because that wire is just hanging out. i just noticed that the last time i was at the boat and am shocked

Assuming that means there is nothing attached to the other end, it's impossible to say what it went too. Many times previous owners hook up things like electric downriggers, pot pullers, trolling motors, etc. in some of the strangest places.

Typically the trim pump hooks up there, but if the trim pump is working then that is not the wire for it.

If it has no use, remove it.

ahh i figured out where it came from...just followed the lead and noticed its broken end.

having lots of trouble with my guages though (http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=391669)
