What is this Merc 10hp, please???????

[65 Starcraft]

I have a long shaft mercury around 10hp, supposed to be around a 1976, the serial # 5640786 these are the only numbers on the plate. When I go to Merc parts express, they require an eight digit number or letter combination. If someone could come up with the exact year and model it would be well appreciated. Thans Pat M.<br />PS. Just wanted to add this number is off the Merc Serial # plate, so I don't have a part number mixed up this is the serial number.

your serial # is a 1981-82 9.8 Mer. Mercury didnt make a 10HP till and only in 1997.

Thanks DTS I appreciate the response, hopefully I can come up with a model number. This motor is an electric start, with cut outs for controls.

my 1974 merc 9.8 hp is a model 110 . the merc parts express if i'm right is good for 1984 and newer motors that start out with a A through Z letter then numbers. other wise you'll get the error message
