What is this item sitting below my engine? Mercruiser 3.0

brand spanking new boat owner here. What is this piece that was just sitting below my engine and what does it do? Does it belong somewhere else?

To me it looks like a thru-hull transducer for depth sounder.

Was probably glued to the hull at one point. Definately a shoot through (the hull) sonar transducer
