what is the reason volvo,omc, mercruiser

i 'v noticed there seems to be numerous post about omc's, and mercruisers, and few about Volvo's..the omc's i understand, but why more mercruisers, are there just that many more out there ?or are the volvo's that much more dependable? or do mercruiser owners work on their own, and VP send it to the shop. just wondering.

didnt volvo start with engineering airplanes?

I would guess there's somewhere between 10X and 50X the population of Mercruiser drives in North America compared to Volvo. Especially older units.

MERC owns the MOST boat companys through Brunswick if you shop around you will find that 10% of the boats might give you a pick between Volvo and Merc

Starting to see a lot of volvo diesels on boats that are built buy Brunwicks

wish toyota made boat engines and drives- they would at least be smoother than the mercs

Actually Volvo's are pretty damn bullet proof. After the stuff i've seen here, I would never get a Merc OD
