What is the HydraSport-Sunbird link?

Various tid bits of info are leading me to the conclusion that these two brands are linked in some way.<br />For example, the iboats boat covers list the two together in the catalog.<br />Also, the Hydra-Sports transoms are similar to my Sunbird.<br />Did they merge at some point? Is HS the surviving name after Sunbirds demise w/OMC?

I think in 1997 or 1998 the sunbird boats were bought out by Hydra Sport and relabeled. I have a 1999 230 cc and it is identical to the 1998 sunbird. In fact a Hydra sport rep admitted that the 1999 boat was a sunbird with a new decal. Hydra sport seemed ashamed of their "seahorse" models. My boat has no ID plate but Hydra sport cannot supply one as they say it was a sunbird product. ?? Hydra sport decal but a sunbird boat? They are still building them but the price has gone up.

Thanks for posting that. I guess in a way, the Sunbird didn't die. :D
