What is part number for the impeller?

Took impeller out. The number on it says 8M0025709. I cant find this part number on the Internet!!! This is probably not an original part...

What is the original part number for the impeller on my boat? The engine is 1993 4.3LX/V6 Alpha One Thunderbolt Ignition, serial number OF0244564. The transom is OF058634. The drive is OD886515.

Is this the right part? How the quality of Sierra compares to original Mercury?

I am completely confused, one other site lists this part number for my impeller: 43026 2 (original Mercury).

Also, I found somewhere this old stock new part: 47-8M0024502. Will it fit?

Since you most likely haven't replaced your impeller previously, I would pop for the entire kit with the face plate, housing, o rings and gaskets etc.

Hi, Waterman. Thanks for the information. I have another related question: How worn the housing of the water pump should be for me to decide to replace it? My housing doesn't look bad. No rust whatsoever. But, there is a bit of a track. Not much. You can see it, and can feel it by a finger. I attach a photo. So, can I keep it, or should replace it? Based on your experience.

And, again, based on your experience, how good are Sierra parts compared to the original OEM? Is there enough of the quality difference, to justify the price difference?

Ayuh,.... That's some pretty good groovin',... I'd throw in the Kit, rather than just an impeller,.....

I don't have any problem with runnin' Sierra parts, I buy 'em all the time,....
It is debatable whether they're "As Good As" Merc,.....
For the actual Impeller,... I'm in love with the Globe line of run-dry impellers,....

Thanks! Couple more questions related to assembling the water pump.

1) About the black seal at the very top of the housing, on the shaft. Is it expected to be pushed into the housing half way (it has a cone "skirt" at its bottom, that could go into the upper edge of the housing) or it should be entirely outside of the housing? I saw some pictures with this seal pushed half way into the housing, but also I saw some videos where people simply slide it down along the shaft and that is it. When I disassembled my unit it was NOT in the housing, just sitting on top of it, on the shaft.

2) There is a plastic piece in the kit that I am also in doubt. The original diagram has no such part on it. I suspect that this may simply be a tool for installing that rubber seal into the housing (I saw somewhere people saying this is a tool). But, also, I saw a video where the guy put it on top of the black seal, left it there, and said it should stay that way. I am confused.

I still want you to clarify one thing, since the final state of that seal is not clear (it is black). When you pull the drive shaft up, there is not much of the motion, correct? So, this procedure can put some tension onto the seal, but is not likely to suck the lower posion of the seal down into the housing. Am I right? I just never did it, and it is hard to guess. Please, clerify this. Does the seal stays entirely out of the housing, just pushed slightly toward it (by pulling the shaft up). Thanks!


And, do you have, by chance, a video on instaling the bellows, or can refer to a good one? Now much of the sealing compound to use? In what order, etc.

I haven't done a bellows video. Next time I have to do one, the camera will be running. Amount of adhesive... Enough to lightly cover the entire sealing surface.

I've seen that video and leaving the tool in place is not the correct method.
