I have a Float On trailer that I'm trying to repair. It has tandem axles, but they are all one piece. The springs are even incorporated into the axles. I tried a search here, but I didn't even know how to phrase what I was looking for. I need to replace tires, wheels, axles, springs, etc... Does anyone know what I'm talking about??

Go take a look at championtrailers.com, Terry. You will get a better idea of terminology there.

You have torsion spring axles. Not common on boat trailers but very common on light trailers.

Run away from that trailer, as far as you can.

Thanks gspig. I'm thinking of putting a heavy duty single axle with springs and larger tires instead of this original setup. I have to rig the frame anyway, mightaswell do it right... Thanks for the info. T.

I have a torsion axle on my 2003 Load Rite. It rides very well.

Given the extensive list of parts, the cost will be MORE than a new trailer.

Many newer aluminum trailers being sold with torsion axles. Is there a problem with those?

That's not a trailer...it's a loose collection of corrosion.......

I would mount some new spring brackets and do a whole new setup. It is probably possible to rebuild the torsion axle setup with some new hubs and spindles. Looks like you could use some new tires also. ;)

The I-beam doesn't have any corrosion at all. I think I will rebuild it. After pricing parts, I think rebuilding outweighs buying a new trailer that's comparable. It will basically be a new trailer.

I would if you are at all handy, those trailers just took a nice jump in price with the steel costs rising.

Torison axles have many advantages over externally sprung axles. No rusting of the springs, no squeaking noises, the ability to adjust the axle(s) back and forth on the trailer for optimum tongue weight, abd the ability to have the trailer frame (and the boat) closer to the ground for stability and easier launch/retrieval.

And the're not uncommon on boat trailers. ;)

Re: What is it...? 1 piece tandem axle

When I saw the trailer I actually liked the "one piece" setup. Rwidman, especially its lower profile. Lower to the ground Looks like it's easier to replace than springs, separate axles, etc... Also you're right about the price of metals especially aluminum. not to mention I Beam. Do we have China to thank for that?? ;)
Thanks for all of the help guys T.
