What is I/O???

What is I/O??? I thought it was inboadrd or outboard. Like something that says I/O can be used for both. Is that right?

It means Inboard/Outboard.....Sterndrive. Engine is inside the boat and drive is outside the boat.

To expand on Trent's post, go visit a marine store that sells 19 - 28 foot power boats. You'll see a lot of I/O's and will get familiar with them.

Gee, after all these years I just thought it was another way to spell I OWE!<br /><br />There are several types of drives, I/O is inboard/outboard or sterndrive just as Trent (The Main Man) posted above. Inboard where the motor/drive in inside the boat, and the outboard which is motor/drive which is on the outside of the boat, preferably on the transom. Then there or others such as "L"drive, "V"drive, and jet drive, but usually if your into boats, you will know what those drives are.

UH...Walter brings up and old subject..Miss Bud. She used to have a Merlin V-12 in her when I was a boy! (Went into a P-51 Mustang airplane)! Nothing like hearing those V12's. Iv seen them things tear the water up!! Wish I could go back in time....
